| Llama Enthusiasts, This newsletter is meant to motivate those that are down. It's been a tough year for everyone, but things will get better. Nationals is over, most shows and sales are now complete, and soon we will all begin to enjoy the holidays and spending time with family - enjoy time with your family. The llama show/sale season is over for most of us, but time goes by quickly. This is a good time to reflect back on the year and ask yourself some questions. Did you accomplish your goals this year (you do set goals, right?) If not, why did you not hit those goals? Are there things you can do differently? What are your goals for 2010? If you look at the most accomplished farms, past or present, all of them had mission statements or goals. Without setting goals, we are just cruising in no particular direction and that leads to mixed results. So take the time between now and next spring to reflect on what your goals are. You should set realistic goals that are reachable and maybe a couple that are possible but more difficult to obtain. Some common goals farms set: 1. Sell more llamas We can help you with all of these typical goals. 1. Sell more llamas - through our auctions and private treaty sales, you can sell more llamas. So many farms have used us to help with their own sales. Did you know you can place ads in our newsletter for your specific llamas you want to sell? Also, through our Breeders Directory program, you can obtain names of people near you or in your state that want to know more about llamas. What a great opportunity for you! These "newbies" are the best customers, as they usually buy several as they start out and latch on to the mentoring farm. Great opportunity. 2. Herd Sire - are you looking for a herd sire? You have come to the right place. First, you need to know there is an abundance of male llamas out there and many should not be used for breeding. It pays to be very selective. For our auctions, we tend to be selective with the males we put in our sales, only allowing a handful typically. These are phenomenal males, herd sire quality. There is also the private treaty list on our site where you can bring up all the males available. Check with us if you do not see a male you like, because we usually know of several available from farms. 3. We all hate to get "the gate" but it happens. If you are frustrated, we have the answer for you. 1) Evaluate your herd or have an experienced farm review your herd with no bias and honestly give you their opinion. 2) Based on that critique, create a game plan. Keep the good ones and sell the ones that are not working out for you. And next time you watch one of our auctions and see a show winner not being bid on, BID on it! You might win, and then that could also mean wins in the show ring now and future generations. If you use this approach, you will improve your herd. Since very large llama farms rarely buy in our sales (not sure why, but that is good for the smaller farms because we often have llamas similar to the ones they buy at in person auctions), this is an opportunity for farms with less resources to obtain great llamas and be able to compete against the bigger farms. Calypso, Caru, The Colorfield farms combine llamas for quick online auction The 3Cs put together some co-owned llamas, as well as ones solely owe ned, in a very quick last minute auction in October. Five llamas out of 13 have sold to date, with some inquiries still lingering and purchases possibly pending. Given the very short notice and time of the year, we were pleased , although we always hope for all to sell and the highest prices possible. March Madness still planned for 2010 We still need more time discuss LSL memberships, but the final decision will be announced in the coming weeks. If we elect to do memberships, members will automatically have two consignments in March Madness (still subject to review and approval and male acceptance not guaranteed), membership in Breeders directory and leads, unlimited private treaty listings and some other things to be announced. The cost for memberships is still being discussed and will be announced in the coming weeks. The cost to consign is as follows: $150 per consignment plus 10% of sale price with $100 of the application fee being credited back on the commission. So if your llama sells for $1000, you will owe no commission. Sell for $2000, you will owe $100 commission, etc. In order to allow us to promote the sale the best we can , we ask for early consignments. Other upcoming auctions in 2010 Burnt Mountain Llamas sale - TBA Breeders' Directory and leads report Since our last newsletter, the following leads came in from these areas: Mendon, MO Members closest to these areas will receive the contact info for these people. Please contact them and invite them to your farm, provide them with the information they want, and sell them their first llamas! If anyone know of any farms in Hawaii, we would like to have their contact information. We had someone from Hawaii looking for llamas, and I would like to contact any farms from Hawaii. Remember, there is not much time in 2009 for membership, but we are still taking farms on a donation basis for membership through end of December (all 2009 memberships expire on 12/31/09). We will start renewals at the normal rate of $60/year for 2010. For those that become members (if we decide to do memberships), your membership fee will include the directory/leads.
