Bahama Llama farm is a family run business located in
Franklin County, Virginia near
the Smith Mountain Lake resort area. Getting into the llama business
was truly fate for Ken and I. I am a full time REALTOR and Ken is ,
well , today a painter,tomorrow a sculptor,the next day a contractor.
So our occupations are closely related and we work together on lots
of things. When our friend and real estate customer was about to retire
and move to Smith Mt Lake I asked him, what are you gonna do with your
llamas? The rest is history. You see his wife who the llamas really
belonged to wanted all 40 llamas to stay together (yes, we took on a
whole herd). We learned a lot quickly and some the hard way, but we
are glad we took on this wonderful adventure and feel blessed to own
llamas. They really are a gift from God!
Now we have a managable 22 girls and 3 herd sires. Our farm name is
just FUN and easy to remember: Baha
ma
Llamas. Funny story, I have real estate customers from Abaco Island,
Bahamas, who found my web site (real estate) on the internet and bought
lake front property from me - now they help me with names for my crias!
We plan to keep showing because we love it. Ken calls me the show hog
cause I'll show them all if he'll let me. Our children, Shane (15) and
Olivia (13) are into llamas too. Olivia is an expert in performance,
and she is crafty. She felted a purse on the way to Nationals this year,
and it is so nice. I said make another and we will sell them! Shane
is the muscle when we need them, getting up hay in summer - good help.
I don't know how much longer we can keep him in the show ring, you know,
girls....
Our diverse herd consists of light to heavy fiber on
statuesque, athletic and colorful animals. As a family we show our llamas
in performance and halter. Our show record speaks for itself. In 2004
we qualified for the Nationals and brought home a top ten finalist,
Batgirl of Bahama Llamas, 6th place in Light Wooled Females. Ken, Ramona,
Shane and Olivia welcome you to visit our farm and let us show you why
llamas have stolen our hearts! Bahama Llama Farm is located in Southern
VA about 4 hours south of DC and 2 hours north of Greensboro, NC. A
well noted federal park is 2 miles from us- Booker T Washington National
Monument which is usually shown on maps.
HERD SIRES
Sweet's Bandito
Bandito won Grand Champion Eastern Regionals in 2005. His first cria
is a female out of BAL Sheilo, and she is awesome! She will be seen
in the show ring; her eyes are circled with black to silver, and she
has that white tip on her tail like Bandito. We can see curl in her
fiber and she weighed in at 33.8 pounds!
Guido's Revolution
Rev's first cria arrived in October, and
he looks so much like Rev. We are very pleased - this guy is a sweet
heart! He has color and a very good disposition. Rev has proven to be
quite the performance champion, qualifying for nationals this year.
BAL Inseminator
Inseminator's first offspring are expected
in Fall 2006.
